When you think of TikTok, funny and random videos of people lip-syncing and dancing are probably the first things that come to mind (which is true, by the way). That said, more and more businesses are incorporating it into their social media strategy. When you think that the app has been downloaded 1.65 billion times and 35% of customers are more likely to convert from a video ad, there’s no reason not to give it a try.

So, how do you get started? First things first—you need to go to your app store and download TikTok. Once that’s done, keep in mind these helpful hints:

Video Length

Originally, users were only allowed to post videos anywhere from 15-60 seconds in length. Eventually, videos were extended to three minutes. As of February 2022, TikTok has enabled users to create videos that are up to 10 minutes in length. This extended length is great if you want to create an instructional or product demonstration video. That said, not everyone has access to this feature. To confirm if you do:

  • Open the camera by clicking on the plus button.
  • Then, if you look above the pink record button, you can see what time limits you have to choose from. If you don’t see 10m, then you don’t have that feature. But don’t fret! You shouldn’t have to wait too long for TikTok to make this available to the masses.

Engage With Users

As with any social media platform, community engagement is important—and TikTok makes it easy. On the right-hand side of every video, you’ll see an icon menu that allows you to interact with other TikTok users.

  • To view the user’s profile, click on the profile icon. If you want to follow the user, tap on the plus sign.
  • If you want to like a video, click on the heart icon.
  • To leave a comment, click on the speech bubble icon.
  • Want to share the video with your friends? Just click on the arrow icon.
  • And lastly, if you’re wondering what tune is playing in the video, tap the spinning record icon.

Make TikTok Work For You

So, how can you make TikTok work for you? Check out these ideas for some serious inspiration:

How-To Videos

Instructional or step-by-step videos on how you solved a particular problem are a great way to showcase your business. It shows off your expertise and creates a sense of trust with your audience.

Product Demonstrations

Have a great product that works on ants or rodents? What about a killer solution for weeds (pun intended)? Post a quick video to show how you or your products work in action.

Showcase Your Employees

Show off your hard-working employees and company culture. What fun activities are you participating in? What’s a day in the life of your technicians? What does your workplace look like? What really goes on in your day-to-day operations? These are all great ways to showcase your business and your brand.

Behind-The-Scenes

What process did you use to make that lawn emerald green? How did you get prepped to remove all those wasps growing inside the walls of your customer’s house? Similar to product demonstrations, behind-the-scenes videos showcase the processes involved with your services.

Before And After

HGTV isn’t the only place to showcase before and after reveals. Post a before and after video of the landscaping project you’re most proud of. Or, the before and after-effects of the particular chemical you used to get rid of a termite infestation. What’s even more effective? Film it using the timelapse feature so customers can get the full effect from beginning to end.

Question And Answer

You’ve probably noticed a lot of “question and answer” videos on TikTok. This is a great way to connect with customers by answering the most common things they may be curious about when it comes to pest control or lawn care services.

Don’t Be So Serious

Just because you’re a field service business doesn’t mean everything has to be so serious. TikTok was created for entertainment, so show off your sense of humor by hopping on trends and challenges. Check out Polite Pest perfectly executing the latest TikTok trend.

Similar to most social media platforms, you can and should advertise your field service business. In the end, TikTok is one of the best investments you can make to reach a new audience.
